BAND MEMBERS DIE IN A PLANE ACCIDENT

The band was having fun and singing on their plane after making a spectacular show in London, when suddenly the pilot of the plane who was taking the microphone warned that the plane was going through turbulences, so the band members decided to rest because they were tired, minutes after the band’s manager called the lead vocal, Roddy, to know if the band would accept a proposal to do a show in Paris next day, when Roddy was talking on the phone the captain advised passengers to immediately put their oxygen masks. Quickly, the singer who recorded a video and posted it on a site for his fans, so they would know what had happened. Immediately after seen the site, Roddy’s friend called the band’s manager, he also called the firefighter; while the police was trying to find the bodies they discovered that the engine had blown. So they finally called the family members to tell what had happened.

A airplane stopped Avenged Sevenfold’s show! Two million people were watching it. The show was great, they played greatly. But while they were singing the last song “A Little Piece of Heaven”, a plane crashed the stadium and killed everybody. Two hundred fifty thousand people died, other one hundred ones are in the hospitals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

GIANT WAVE KILLS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE IN INDONESIA

Hundreds of people were having fun and sunbathing at a beach in Bali when a giant wave hit them. The wave killed many people and destroyed the beach. The only survivor – a woman, told what happened with her when the wave was hit the place. “It was terrible. My family and I were in the beach playing soccer when we saw a giant wave approaching us. I thought or we run or we’ll die! We started running when my husband fell down. He broke his leg, but he could walk until the end of the beach and we were saved”, she said. There are many people in the local hospitals.

 

BEAUTIFUL CAROL

In Indonesia, a giant wave killed a lot of people. It happened in the morning, around 9:00 AM and left thousands of people dead, it also left the whole city completely destroyed. Several children were studying at school, and parents were working at the time of the accident, I was playing on the internet when I received this sad news. It was unclear why the wave collided against the shore, but it was time to seek the victims who survived and the bodies of the dead people. It will be very difficult to start to build the city, and now, the only thing left is people’s prayer.

BRAZILIAN CAR RACER DIES IN ITALY

A Brazilian car racer was training to the GP of Monza, when his car crashed into the wall. The emergency arrived in the place of the accident less than one minute. The ambulance was taking the race car driver to the hospital, but he died in the way because he was seriously injured. He left a wife and two daughters.

A Brazilian car racer was training to the GP of Monza. When he was going to the last lap, the car hit the wall and overturned. The rescue team arrived and carried him to the hospital by helicopter.

 

EDUARDO 

One day in a F1 race, Thiago Silva, a Brazilian driver who was doing the test to see the position that he would take the next day, hit the car and collided with other pilots. Due to the very strong injured he died, he crashed against the wall after being into the flames. After a few minutes, TVs programs all over the world were announcing the death of Thiago Silva, Brazil’s best driver of all times.

Yesterday a car racer in Italy died; his name was Joseph Senna, a famous Brazilian car racer. The race would decide the winner of the F1. Joseph was winning when he lost the control and crashed against another pilot, his car flipped and exploded. Firefighters immediately arrived to extinguish the fire when the car blew up. A person who was in the race and saw everything told “Joseph was going very well in the race, when he hit his car; it was not his fault but the driver who was behind him”. Many people were crying, Joseph will be missed for many Brazilians fans.

 

 

HELEN KELLER

Helen Keller was born June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama. She was born with full eye sight and hearing also a very healthy baby. However in February 1882, when Helen wasn’t even 2 years old she became very sick. The doctors thought it was a type of fever that involved the brain and she was expected to die. However, the illness went away, Kate Keller, Helen’s mother, wasn’t getting a response from Helen when she rang the dinner bell and never noticed her parents in front of her. It was at the time when the realized she was blind, deaf, and mute.

 After this tragedy, they knew she needed help and after asking help from many doctors, Alexander Graham Bell suggested they have a student from the Perkins Institution to help Helen with everyday life tasks since she was both blind and deaf. the student was Anne Sullivan. Anne Sullivan was also blind but only partially. She couldn’t see very well because of an eye infection. Anne helped Helen learn all about life by spelling out words into her hand called finger spelling.

Helen Keller was mostly famous for becoming the first deafblind person to graduate from college. She attended Radcliffe college and it was very difficult for her being the only one in her class, blind and deaf. But she accomplished many other things like writing about 14 books, creating libraries for the blind, and demanding women’s rights.

         Once upon a time there was a teenager called Bella. She was a gorgeous girl that used to date the most handsome boys at school.

            When she was seventeen, the doctors found out that she had a terrible terminal disease which would lead her into a comatose, which means, lethargic inertness. So, she decided not to worry about that and live her life as a common teenager.

            Months later, she was still a very beautiful and happy girl. Their parents thought the fact of never having any symptom was a miracle.

            Bella was such a popular cheerleader that all boys in high school wanted to have her as a girlfriend. Erick was one of those guys. He was a typical geek, who had never had the dare to tell anybody about his feelings. He really loved her, but he was very shy to admit that.

            In a calm Sunday morning, Bella passed out and her parents took her to the hospital. It happened what was expected: she was in a coma.

            Her family and friends got very upset, but there was nothing compared with the sadness of Erick, who wanted to do something to change this situation.

            During the years, Bella kept “sleeping” and Erick decided to go to college and try to move on. Despite that, he never lost the hope to see her smiling again.

            When he grew up, he graduated in an important biomedical school and started to study rare diseases healing and his first research was about Bella’s problem.

            Two years later, after a lot of hard work, Erick finally found out how to wake up Bella. He worked with a group of good doctors and after such a wait he could finally see the love of his life opening her eyes again.

            Happiness couldn’t be bigger. So, he decided to write a letter about all his feelings and all of the things that he did to heal her. When she read it, she got very surprised and settled a date. In the moment Erick saw Bella, there was no doubt: he kissed her and that was the most thrilled kiss of their lives!           Once upon a time, there was a lovely couple that couldn’t have children, so they decided to adopt one – a little girl. When they hold the baby girl, they were so happy that they realized the little girl had the most sparkling eyes they have ever seen, that was the reason they decided to call her Sunny.

            To celebrate the first year with the beautiful baby girl, the couple traveled to the sister’s wife’s house, Flora, Fauna and Merry. The aunts were so happy that didn’t bore for having to take care of Sunny for a couple of hours, since the parents wanted to buy a special present for her. After long hours, the aunts were getting worried about the couple lateness, when suddenly the phone ring, it was a doctor saying he had bad news, the couple had suffered a car accident, and unfortunately, they had died. The doctor also said that the Sunny’s mother’s last words were “I love my sister and Sunny very much. I will always look after her”.

            Sixteen years after the accident, Sunny was an extremely gorgeous girl, with long red hair and shine eyes. She wasn’t the most popular girl of the school, but she was very happy, she had amazing friends. She loved her aunts, besides that she had a secret: she was in love with the most popular and handsome boy of the school – Daniel. He used to date the most popular girl of the school, Kristen, whose birthday party would be in two days, everybody was invited.

            You said right, he USED TO date Kristen. Sunny didn’t like to see Dan so unhappy, but he had never noticed her. Next day after school, Sunny was with her friends going to their houses. Near Sunny’s home there was a beautiful park, where she sometimes went to watch the sunset. That day she went to her usual bench, which for her surprised was occupied. She stopped breathing. The person was tall, with dark hair, “OH MY GOD”, she thought, it was Daniel. He felt something strange and looked back. His eyes met her shine eyes, he was hypnotized. He felt like the air was electrified. He tried to talk, but he barely opened his mouth. She blushed and looked to the sky, trying to talk something.

            When she finally arrived at home, she was incredible happy, she couldn’t believe, the guy that she was in love was there. The few words he babbled was such pretty words, all a girl would love hearing. He asked her if she wanted go to Kristen’s party with him, and obviously she said yes. She was so happy she told her aunts, Fauna, Flora and Merry. They said to Sunny that it was better if she stayed at home and didn’t go to that crazy party. She was so happy, but when she heard her aunts saying this she went to her bedroom and started crying. “It’s not possible; I have to go to this party. It will be the best party ever and he invited her to go in a date. I have to escape; I need to go to that party.”

            Next day in school, Sunny was like a crazy girl looking after Dan, but when she found him, she preferred had never talked to him, never even known him. He was with Kirsten. She ran to the bathroom. She was so angry and sad and feeling as an idiot. She thought she wanted to disappear, she couldn’t believe that she had been so stupid. She was crying so much she was trying to convince herself that she should go to the party and have fun.

            Sunny told everything, about the park, the plan and Dan and Kirsten to one of her best friends, Liza. She didn’t agree about the escaping part, but she decided to help the friend.

            At night, Dan phoned Sunny, apparently he was in love and he wanted her, but she didn’t answer. She was dressing up for the party; she was wearing an amazing light pink dress.
When Sunny arrived to the party, everybody was having fun; some of them were already drunk. She walked into Kirsten’s direction of to say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY”, Kirsten was very polite to her and said she hoped her to enjoy the party with a weird voice; Sunny said thanks and came back to her friends, that were already dancing.

            Kirsten started talking about Dan, Sunny didn’t wanted to talk about him and said to Kirsten she needed to go. Kirsten said, “oh but it’s so early, please wait up to the toast, drink something while you wait”. So did Sunny. After that, she went to the dance floor feeling weird, when she saw Dan and Kirsten kissing each other. She wanted to go out but everything started to spin and she was feeling weak. She went upstairs and lied over a bed.

            Dan saw Sunny going upstairs and went after her. Kirsten tried to stop him, but he continued running. When he found Sunny, he was pale as a ghost. Kirsten entered in the room and locked the door. “She will never be in our paths again, now we can be together forever”, she said.

            Then finally Dan said “I do not want to be with you. I broke up with you. I don’t love you anymore. I said this to you at school when you kissed me. I didn’t want that kiss, neither the one on the party. Why did you do this? What happened to Sunny? I love her”. Kirsten was petrified about what Dan said. She was so angry that fainted, she angry and furious. Unexpectedly, Kirsten injected a needle in her own arm. Dan was horrified, he tried to stop her, but it was too late, she was…dead.

            He didn’t know what to do. When he noticed he was crying next to the bed with Sunny, he was so amazed by her beauty that he gave her a kiss, a truly love kiss. When he realized he felt that he was being kissed. When he opened his eyes he met Sunny’s. They didn’t want to know about anything, even with the drop dead Kirsten body laid on the floor.

                        After the incident Kirsten was sent to the rehab. Sunny never disobeyed her aunts again. Dan was finally dating his priest girl, Sunny. And they lived happily ever after.

 

 

ARYANE

             Once upon a time – in Quebec – there was a young boy named Adam who was kind of rich, but also very impolite. He didn’t care about people, only about technology. He used to say he didn’t need anyone, because his computers were his true friends. His mother, an old but wise woman warned him it could make him lonelier, but he didn’t seem to care. She always tried to help him, but he didn’t want to be helped. One day, feeling a mix of sadness and angriness, she said him: “You are turning yourself into a beast! You don’t know how to deal with people anymore… Only love will cure you. You must love and be loved soon; otherwise you will remain as this beast forever!” Bursting into tears, she left and promised coming back to his life only when he wanted to be good again.

            Some years later, when he was already a young man, he started working on an Information Technology company. He was extremely happy about this job and his life, because he was doing all he wanted: dealing only with machines. There was only one disadvantage on this job: there were people in there! But, as there were people everywhere, he had to live with it.

            One day, he noticed the secretary of the company. He found her very beautiful but unusual, because she loved dealing with people and helping the needing ones. As the days passed by he couldn’t take her out of his head and he didn’t understand why, so he decided to look for some information about her: Her name was Belle, she lived nearby with her father Maurice who was an inventor, but she was object of unwanted attention from the arrogant company director, Gaston. He decided to let it go, because Gaston was his boss and he didn’t know how to deal with people, anyway.

            Day by day, he started realizing the machines were not enough for him anymore… He wanted more than that! He started wondering if he wanted Belle… After some weeks of disturbed sleep and work, only thinking about her, he decided to give it a shot. He invited her for dinner in a very fancy restaurant, but she thought about his very rude manners and refused the invitation. He got very angry at her and decided not to talk to her anymore.

            Some days later, when she was walking through the office, she saw a really small tattoo of a rose on his wrist and asked about it. He got even angrier at her, because this tattoo was in honor of his mother who left him because of his life style, and he chased her away of the office. She got frightened, started running away and was hit by a car. Adam rescued Belle and tried to nurse her wounds, but as he was bad-mannered, it didn’t work very well. Seeing him was weird, but he was trying to be courteous, she tried to be his friend. She finally accepted his invitation for dinner.

            When all seemed to be fine she answers a call from the hospital: one of her father’s inventions caused him injuries. At this moment, she left Adam for her father, and seeing her leave made him aware of how infatuated he was by her. He decided to follow her. Gaston, who was already in the hospital, got extremely mad knowing she was in a date with Adam. When Adam arrived, Gaston attacked him. Adam was initially too sad to fight back, but when he saw Belle he regained. They fought until Gaston lost his footing, falling to his death from a big window.

            Adam was very injured after the fight and seeing that Belle realized she loved him too. All from a sudden, he decided to leave behind the beast he was and become a prince, caring about the others. They decided to get married and he started looking for his mother, to show her he had changed.

  

MARIA CAROLINA

             Once upon a time in a place not that far away and not that long ago, there was a gorgeous girl, she used to study in a great school and she used to have the most amazing friends. She was also very clever, she learned many languages, she loved arts and used to take ballet classes too. Beside that she was funny, lovely and known by everyone. Her name was Jackie. This girl had many qualities, however, like everyone, she was not perfect.

            Jackie’s school was very close from her home, so she used to walk to classes everyday. Her school was full of boys, very handsome and cute ones, who knew exactly what to wear and how to speak. They liked everything Jackie enjoyed doing, and they loved Jackie, but she never gave importance to them. She was looking for the perfect guy, like all of her friends, but those boys never seemed to call her attention.

            Although, she had always called the attention of a neighborhood boy, he was not amazing, he didn’t call any kind of attention beside of his bad manners, and his terrible tasty for dressing, he was not very good in anything, he loved punk rock music and his skateboard. He was called Sidney and known as Sid.

            Like most of the neighborhood boys, Sid also loved Jackie. He used to look though the window every morning, just to see her walk to school. He thought Jackie was an amazing girl too, not due to her beauty, her money or expensive clothes. Sid felt she was different from her spoiled friends. She had something good inside and he was amazed by it.

            One afternoon, when Jackie was coming back home with her friend, Sid got out of his home and decided that he would talk to her and meet her. But while he was presenting himself to Jackie, all of her friends started laughing at him. They said many things about him, things that he was used hear, so he didn’t care. He only cared about Jackie but he got disappointed with her. She seemed to agree with them.

            The truth is that Jackie had loved to meet him; she thought that he was different and amazing too. However, she was too weak and naive to admit that to her friends, he was just not her type, he was a looser in their opinion. They couldn’t understand what was he thinking when he decided talk to her.

            Sid looked through the window, his opinion wasn’t the same, maybe he was really wrong, she was just like them, spoiled and superficial. He made a serious mistake considering the chance of be close to her and know her.

            Since the day Sid went to talk to her, Jackie couldn’t forget about him, she was bored, she couldn’t stand those people anymore. She was tired of clothes and money talking, she was sick of mendacity. She was decided, she would do some changes, she would do whatever she wanted and liked to do, she wouldn’t care about anyone’s opinion from that time on.

            She ran home, dressed her old nice clothes, they were black and baggy, just like Sid’s. She knocked on his door; he couldn’t believe, he was right in the end, she was different, she saw his real beauty, and she seemed to be much more than just a pretty face.

 

 

DANILO

             Once upon a time, there was a young woman who had recently given birth to a girl with very white skin, she and her husband named the newborn Snow White. Some months passed since the girl was born and the mother of the child passed away because of a deficient heart condition. Eighteen years later, Snow became a very beautiful girl, and her father had decided to marry another woman, a 40-year-old woman named Nazareth. The woman worked as a model for a very famous brand of clothes, she was still very beautiful but since she started aging, the agency started losing interest in her.

            One day she was speaking to her manager about her career and opportunities when he spotted the young snow white, immediately he got interested in her beauty and asked her to continue her stepmother’s work as a model. Nazareth became jealous and furious to see a younger person taking her place, and hired a hitman to end Snow’s life.

            The hitman chased her for some time and soon became very attached to the girl and realized he could not finish his job. Instead of killing her, he warned her to flee for some time. Since the disappearing of Snow White, the stepmother believed the lies the hitman told her, and she believed that Snow White was dead.

            Snow travelled many miles until she reached a small city in the countryside, where a circus was passing by. Immediately, she joined the circus which was ran by seven dwarf brothers. She lived with the dwarfs for a few months until a rumor came to the stepmother’s ears. The rumor said that Snow was alive and living with the circus crew and was passing by a city very close to where their home was.

            In the same moment she rushed to get to the city and see for herself the true; angry she decided to do the job herself. She sneaked in her trailer and poisoned her lunch, causing her to have difficulty in breathing and faint. Seeing this, she just took off and ran back home. Luckily a young med-school student was nearby and saw the young girl suffocating. He immediately took her to the hospital and stayed with her until she woke up.

            When she woke up he declared himself to her and drove her away to home. When Nazareth saw that the girl was still alive she went crazy and committed suicide. Snow and her boyfriend lived happy for the rest of their life.

 

 

MARIA LUIZA

            Once upon a time – a recent time, to be exact – there was a 16-year-old girl named Alicia, who lived in a big important town named Sealand. She was extremely pretty: but she knew that wasn’t the reason why everybody looked at her on the streets: what called people’s attention the most wasn’t her long red hair or her shinny green eyes; neither was the fact that her father was the mayor of Sealand, it was her wheelchair.

            Alicia was born with a very awful disease: she was paraplegic. All her life she pictured how it would be if she could walk, run and dance like everybody else around her. She felt extremely bad for being different. All she wanted was to have a normal life.

            One day she decided to go to school: she heard about it everywhere, she watched a lot of movies and sitcoms about high school students and she was tired of having classes at home. Going to high school was a great step to normality.

            Her dad, however, was very insecure about her decision. He though she would be even sadder if she lived among normal teenagers. But Alicia was sure it would be a wonderful experience, and once she was very stubborn, she ignored her dad’s advice and prohibition and decided to go anyway.

            She took a deep breath as she passed trough the doors of Sealand’s high school, and forced herself to be calm. She didn’t care too much for all those strange looks above her: she was used to it. Despite that, she was absolutely fascinated by everything there: the lockers, the classes, the gym, the dining hall and everything else. But what made her heart beat faster was a senior boy named Seth: he had the most beautiful smile in the whole world. She found herself completely in love.

            Alicia became sadder due to it. She wanted to be noticed by him, and not by being in a wheelchair. She wanted more than ever to be able to walk so she could have a chance to be with him.

            She couldn’t stand that feeling anymore: she decided to do something about it. She went to a famous doctor called Dr. Kim Garner and told her everything she was going through. After some exams, Dr. Kim told Alicia that she could make her walk, but it was an extremely dangerous surgery. If she lived, she wouldn’t be able to speak ever again. Alicia was very stunned to hear that, but she would do anything to reach her dream, so she decided to take that risk. She would rather die than be without her love forever. Dr. Kim operated Alicia the same day.

            When she woke up, she realized she couldn’t speak. She was terrified, but also relieved. It felt magical to move her legs. She stayed at the hospital until she learned to walk. The day she was leaving Dr. Kim entered her room with tears on her eyes. She told Alicia that something had gone really wrong at the surgery and she would be dead in 3 days.

            Alicia couldn’t cry. She wasn’t worried about dying: she just wanted to be loved by Seth. She had a plan: she would make him fall in love with her in 3 days, and then she could die happy.

            The next day, she went to school with a big smile on her face. She walked to Seth and gave him a piece of paper with the words: “Hi! I’m Alicia! Can you give me your e-mail address?”
He was very surprised and amazed by her beauty. “Sure”, he said, and wrote down his e-mail address.

            Suddenly, he realized, he was completely in love with her. They had been chatting for hours on the internet by the time they discovered they had a lot in common and where perfect to each other. The next day, she told him everything. She told about the paraplegia, the surgery and that she only had one more day to live. He took a long time to type the answer, and it was only a sentence: “Just go to school tomorrow”.

            She went. She waited at the cafeteria. She barely believed when Seth walked to her and gave her the most incredible kiss. “I don’t want you to go”, he said with tears in his eyes. “I don’t want you to leave me!”

            “I don’t want to leave you!” Alicia said.

            They stared at each other. She was talking. They couldn’t believe that.  She didn’t die. Some call it a miracle. Alicia and Seth rather call it true love.

 

 

LETICIA

             Once upon a time a widower man had a daughter, who he loved very much. He decided to marry again with a widow who had two daughters. The man died, and left his inheritance to his daughter, a girl who was talented, courageous and with determination but had a stepmother very ambitious, that when found that the inheritance hadn’t been designated to her, began to make several frames to take all the money.

            The three women were jealous of her beauty, and began to do several things to damage the girl. Although she had inherited enough money, she wasn’t a child anymore and she could do whatever she wanted. She knew the dangerous and frames she could suffer, with the stepmother in your house. So, she was free, started working; started manage her inheritance and became increasingly independent and owner of his life. Cinderella was very happy with the new life, and was always behind its objectives.

            One day, all the girls of Jacksonville were called to a big party which would have band, dj, famous artists and wonderful men. The girls were anxious, one wanted appear more that the other. She went to the best hairdressers and to the mall, to buy dresses and accessories. Her stepmother didn’t want her at the party, to not to take the shine of her daughters. The day of the party, all the girls were beautiful, and when it was midnight, the star of the party, arrived in a limousine, and all the photographers began taking pictures of her. She was the widower daughter. As she walked into the party, she saw a beautiful guy, and the both exchanged glances, and walked toward each other, start dancing and watch the bands. After the party, they left together to know each other better. So, they were in love and began dating. They had their problems at the beginning as everybody else, but were increasingly happy and passed many years together.

OLD FAIRY TALE

Who have never started a story using the famous motto: Once upon a time there was…. this is so familiar to all of us, isn’t it? Especially for those who were born in the 80’s or 90’s and saw all Disney’s productions. My fave one has ever been Beauty and the Beast, which is a traditional fairy tale written by Madame Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve  in 1740. Unfortunately, we don’t have any meaningful 21st century fairy tale. How would it be Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, The Swan Princess and Little Mermaid nowadays? Your task  Toefl students is to choose one of the fairy tale above and rewrite a summary of it in a 21st century perspective, your text should have more than 200 words, in order to have an ideia you can take a look on the the Beauty and The Beast wikipedia article

NEWSPAPER HEADLINES

Hey Inter 2 guys, what’s up? Here is your new task, as we saw in the previous class, the PAST CONTINUOUS (was / were + ING) indicates that a longer action in the past was interrupted. The interruption is usually a shorter action in the simple past as we see on the pic and examples below.

DEFYING GRAVITY 2

 

I always proofread my student’s texts and they are usually forced to be careful about time, grammar mistakes, coherence and cohesion, and go on and so forth. Sometimes I think they don’t have enough time to enjoy their task, however, working on this song was different because through their texts you can realize how deeply impacted they were by the song. I’m really proud of all them, ‘cause they are defying their gravity and this is not an easy thing to do at all, especially when you get older, things seem to be harder. Most of the times we’re so afraid of what people can think about us, and also scared to death to cross our own boundaries. We have to keep up remembering ourselves that we are on the cutting edge of our history, we are history makers.

 

ARYANE

“Defying Gravity”, the major song from the musical Wicked, talks about how the main character of the show – Elphaba – wants to live without her given limits, going against the boundaries that others have placed her in. This is a normal, but deep, theme for a song because it is normally said that who pursuits of freedom is questioning for their happiness.

            The first strophe of the song shows that as soon as Elphaba realizes the changes inside her, she starts moving on to now change her outside, her life. The second strophe exposes that she is aware now she was stuck because of others and that she can try to be on a better situation from now on. The chorus shows she’s really willing to get rid of all that is holding her down, on an act of defying gravity metaphorically.

            The time I defied gravity was when I travelled abroad to study. I felt exactly like her, that the world can be more than what is on our sight now and that sometimes we don’t reach new and better horizons because of others. When I got back from my journey, I changed my life completely and got happier.

            The lesson I could extract from the song – together with my previous experiences – is that people say some things we cannot change, but if we try hard, we can. It’s like a famous phrase from Belva Davis that I love and that lifts me up every day, “Don’t be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can make it so.”

 

 

CAROLINE

The song “Defying Gravity” talks about someone that wants to break herself free to try to be a different person. On the video Elphaba shows how life can be complicated because sometimes you need to defy your gravity. The song brings a lot of emotions when it’s listened and it is also a lesson for life. Trying and finding something that can improve your personal life and forgetting, only by a moment, the rules that you made to try something new. “It’s time to try defying gravity I think I’ll try defying gravity, kiss me goodbye, I’m defying gravity. And you won’t bring me down!” this rocks.

 

MARIA LUIZA

As soon as I got home on Tuesday, I downloaded the song “Defying Gravity” and listened to it over and over, at least 15 times. I kept reading the lyrics again and again, and suddenly I realized I was completely amazed and fascinated by both song and lyric. However, it was still too hard for me to write something deep or clever about it. I was entirely sure I could understand the meaning, I could perfectly feel it, but I still couldn’t find the words to describe it, without mentioning that I had to express myself in English, which made everything a lot harder. I created an incredible number of sentences in my mind, and all of them felt pretty stupid and obvious. Words just seemed way too empty and useless to translate my feelings.

            Despite all that, I kept trying. I just couldn’t give it up, no matter how hard I had to try. I couldn’t let that difficulty overcome me. And then I realized I was trying to defy that gravity, once this annoying force kept trying all the time to bring down my inspiration and patience to organize my ideas. And suddenly everything seemed much clear: this is exactly what the song is about. The gravity described in the song refers to all the troubles that keep us from reaching what we want. And we need to dare and be brave enough to defy them, or at least try to: only by trying we can already consider ourselves winners. Every time we try to overcome a problem, we grow up as human beings and our souls develop. Maybe this is the reason why life is so full of difficulties.

            I was touched by this song so deeply that I could relate it to a really large number of moments in my life, mainly the hard ones. And I’m sure this is another song that will be able to help me face the coming difficulties in my life, and I’m certain there will be a lot more.

            In case you wonder which are the other songs that help me come trough problems I will paste a passage of the three most important ones to me. They have a lot of meaning.

 

 

 

 

KARINE

“Defying Gravity” is a beautiful song extracted from the American sitcom Glee. Its lyrics make anyone think about his / her own life and find a way to defy gravity.

            This song is a reflection of a feeling that anyone search or would like to have. It’s a way to break the rules and get out of that boring model of “good” person.

            The music says about some girl who wants to change her life and stop following someone else’s directions, doesn’t matter how. I think most of the girls can identify themselves in those words, because everybody wants to take their own attitudes without thinking if there will be a consequence or not.

            If you never get out of your routine, you start forgetting the good things that the world can offers you. You should never be afraid of trying something different, like getting new experiences, meeting new friends, knowing new places, finding a new love… Everyday should be a new day.

            I really enjoyed this song because I found myself in that idea. I’m a person who really likes to have a daily surprise, and I only can have this if I dare myself to do something new and increase my own limits.

            So, get out of your routine and have fun. Live like there is no tomorrow, be a funnier person… Then, “close your eyes and leap!”

People always have some kind of dream, a desire, a wish; some people hide it, they prefer to stay in their comfort zone, instead of running after what they really want. Other people say that you’re crazy and don’t trust in what you’re capable to do. Some people try to overcome, even though failing sometimes, they try harder and finally they get what they want.

            Defying Gravity, in my point of view is about facing your fears, living your dream, trusting in yourself, trying to do something about it. Even when you have doubts, you have to trust in your instincts.

            This song speaks to me about the moment I’m living. I know that if I go for it, everything that I was used to, the town, the people around me, this is all going to change. But I have to try, to give it a shot for my future, for what I really want. I really don’t know how it’s going to be, sometimes I think it’s too much, but in the same moment I say to myself that is what I want, so if I never try, then I’ll’ never know.
